Well played Moffat. Well played. :)

(more detailed thoughts to follow in the morning perhaps, right now it is 1 am and so I must sleep)
sisterjune: (Default)
Oh journal, I have neglected you horribly these days havent I? D:

Well anyway so what have I been up to? Not much exactly. But alot of crazy things have happened, well for me they are big things lol.

Thing #1. blah blah real life stuff... )

Thing#2. Speaking of ties. How about that World Cup huh? I love the world cup, I dont usually either find the time, patience or channels to watch soccer/football usually but I always enjoy watching the cup. But man the first few matches of the WC were hella underwhelming this year! That said, the competition really seems to be heating up now, and I cant believe I still got a horse in this race myself. and By that i mean, USA! I am so amazed at that come back they pulled in their match with slovenia, and I was so writing them off and thinking "this is why no one in USA watching soccer cause our team sucks!" and then they do THAT! and THAT! and I am like "GOOOOOOAAL!" like those crazy latin announcers on Univision lol. My mouth dropped and I wanted to scream after that ref disallowed the third goal though! WHAAAAT >( That said, I really wish ESPN would SHUT UP about it. Like seriously, they are not revealing any new info aand just keep analyzing it to death and saying the same shit over and over and gah -_-
Otherwise I've been enjoying ESPN's coverage so far, and the mix of commentaters from different european countries helps alot, since they contribute alot to the analysis and other things. and Plus, one of the UK commentaters has a sexy northern accent <3
Anyway other times I am rooting for and hope to see succeed in this WC: Argentina, Mexico, Brazil (cause I always do root for them but honestly they havent been doing their best so far), Ghana, and Germany since I was fairly impressed by their first game, although that second one, whoo boy D:. This really seems like a cup where teams that usually didnt go very far will do well. I hope it is, with the alot of the big favorite (mainly european) teams doing poorly or mediocre so far, it makes me feel like teams like Mexico, USA and Ghana (who fucked up their last game, COME ON GHANA GET IT TOGETHER!) have a chance of going the distance, if not winning the cup altogether (which lets be honest, is highly unlikely, but girl can dream!).

Thing#3. I saw Toy Story 3! It was AMAZING as far as I am concerned. It's too early for me to tell if I love it the most out of the franchise but I think it was definitely the most exciting one of all. Not to mention the most visually stunning and beautiful. I loved the theme of friendship that was constant throughout and also the themes of growing up, letting go and moving on. As someone who has struggled in the past with these very things, it resonated strongly with me. The best part though of the film was the middle section which was a hilarious excellent parody of and homage to prison breakout films. Well played Pixar writers, well played. I am sorry I ever doubted that this film would be awesome! I confess though, I am still hella skeptical about Cars 2, even though the premise does sound kind of awesome (apparently lightning mcqueen goes around the world, I love around the world stories! :D) I am also even more annoyed that I wont see any pixar original films until 2012. So Cars 2 better be freaking amazing! >(

Also as is customary pixar played an original short film before the actual film. I must say I dont think I liked this one as well as Presto 2 years ago (which they played before WALL-E) or Partly Cloudy which they played before UP last year. That said, I still liked it! and The animation was stunning, and a very creative and unique visual style was used for this particular short that impressed me even if the story itself didnt (but it was cute nonetheless).

That's pretty much been my summer so far. I mean aside from doing a bit of writing, but I'll be honest, the process is pretty slow going so far. D:
In other news though, today is my birthday! I am 22 now. Yay! Hopefully today I will get a cake from a nice bakery (instead of the grocery store bakery which is always kind of...blah) Mmmm cake. (and I just realized Leverage S3 premieres tonight! BEST BDAY GIFT EVER <33)
sisterjune: (Default)
Guess who just saw Inglourious Basterds? Yep me! :D Finally right? Man it took me forever. and shit you know what? I dont think I've ever seen a tarantino movie in the theater! (I keep spelling theater as theatre and I dont know why, I must secretly want to be european or something) I got to see this via less than uh legitimate means, if you know what I mean but man it was worth messing with bittorrent clients to get this, I'm so sad I waited this long to see it. But hey better late than never right? (since I still havent seen Dark Knight...)

So impressions? Well I think it's obvious already that I liked it but the thing is I really wasnt sure that I would. It's funny, I've seen all of Tarantino's movies now, and never disliked a single one (I straight up LOVED most of them actually) but when this film came out the reviews were so mixed that I wasnt sure how to feel about it or if I should see it right away in the theater.

From here on be spoilers! )
Honestly I wouldnt be mad if Tarantino does another film like this in the future, though I suspect whatever he does. I'll love it.

Tv meme!

Jan. 27th, 2010 07:07 pm
sisterjune: (Default)
I really love doing memes but I am so picky about which ones I do these days. Plus super busy! But yesterday I was feeling really ill so I did memes to pass the time. Today I am posting them for your viewing pleasure. lol (next post will be less frivolous....promise!)

Name a TV show series in which you have seen every episode at least twice:

Leverage (it’s still airing though), Community (ditto) , Avatar: the last airbender, Spaced, Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars, Pysch (well almost every episode) The Chappelle Show (actually I think I’ve seen most of the episodes 3 maybe 4 times…), Supersizers, Salute Your Shorts and the Adventures of Pete and Pete ( however my second viewing of both these shows was over 10 years after the first time I watched lol) Oh oh and Angry Beavers, pretty much I think. (goddamit Viacom, where is my DVD?) oh and probably Rugrats and Hey Arnold too but I am not so sure about those.

Name a (current) show you can't miss:

Community, Leverage, Psych, Ashes to Ashes, White Collar, True Blood.

Name an actor that would make you more inclined to watch a show:

hmm, oh well if any of the actors of my current fave shows do other shows after this I’d be more inclined to watch said shows. Though I really watch for a favorite writer or an interesting plot, rarely for a particular actor.

Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show:

Keanu Reeves, he’s just so WOODEN. Robin Williams, too cheesy and I want to say Tom Cruise cause he’s too smirky and smarmy but damn I did love his Lestat. I am torn!

Name a show you can, and do, quote from.

It’s funny, I am terrible at quoting shows. Like I remember proverbs and whole poems and song lyrics without much trouble but I always forget tv quotes even for shows I love and I rarely know when to interject them into conversation appropriately :(

Name a show you like that no one else enjoys:

I don’t know about NO ONE else, but there really needs to be more Leverage fans!

Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song:

Pysch! “I know you know, that I’m not tellin the truth” and Community “I cant count the reasons I should stay~ one by one they all just fade away, do do” and True Blood has an awesome theme song, I don’t know if I’ve I make it a habit to sing though lol. Oh and the Malcom in the Middle theme song. That was a fun one. I don’t now about sing, but I definitely hum the theme song to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia a lot.

Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch:

Leverage! Community! I would also recommend Spaced to anyone who loves Simon Pegg and or is a huge geek or pop culture junkie. It’s just a brilliant funny and geektastic show full of pop culture references and an adorable Simon Pegg (and Nick Frost!). Also It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which to me is hysterical.

Name TV series you own:

Leverage S1, IASiP S1-4, Adv of Pete & Pete, Salute your Shorts (I burned this one on a dvd rather than bought it but technically, I DO own it lol) Spaced, State of Play, LOM , A2A, Hex, Are you afraid of the dark? S1, I also have a bunch of asian dramas I burned in their entirety onto various dvds.

What is your favourite episode of your favourite series?

I…this is impossible to answer lol. I have more than one fave show and more than one fave episode! Well I'll do one series then (or I'd be at this for ages lol) Leverage – Bank Shot Job, First David Job, Two Live Crew Job, Iceman Job.

A show you mean to watch, but you just haven't gotten around to yet:

Burn Notice (I started but got distracted) The Wire, Lost (I used to watch it, dropped it and now I am thinking of picking it back up again) and a shit load of Korean dramas. (don’t ask) I also keep meaning to watch more Classic Doctor Who (I’ve only seen a bit of doctors 4 and 7’s series so far)

Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?

LOL. I have quite so many shows. Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Rescue Me, Life (it started out so great too) Gossip Girl, Glee, The Mentalist and most recently Merlin.

Name a show you aren't interested in watching, not in the least:

Dollhouse, 24, NCIS, Bones (my dad recently fell in love with this show and keeps asking me what I dislike it so much lol)

Name a show that's made you cry multiple times:

Community made me cry XD that one episode of Lost that centered on Mr Eko’s past made me cry my eyes out. Oh and the final ep of New Doctor Who’s first series (the end of Nine ;_;) other than that it’s mostly been movies to make me cry.

Oldest TV show you like?

Oldest as in how old the show is or or how long I’ve been watching it? Let’s go with the former, I would say Doctor Who but I haven’t seen much Classic Who and New Who started in 05, so really the oldest ones I like would be those nick shows: are you afraid of the dark, salute your shorts, adv of pete and pete. All from the early to mid 90’s.

Newest TV show you like?
Community <3 and Modern Family

What do you eat when you watch TV?

if I eat anything it's popcorn, yogurt or a banana.

How often do you watch TV?

for as long as my show is on. I only turn on the tv to watch my weekly programs or the occasional movie or IMF and LinkTv videos.

Do you have a favorite talk show?

The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are the only talk shows I’ve ever been able to stand (I love those guys <3)

What's the last TV show you watched?

White Collar. episode 9 :D

What's your favourite/preferred genre of TV?

don’t have one. I enjoy a mix of genres generally (I love a show that can mix humor and drama well and effectively use both as central to the plot)

What's your least favourite genre of TV?

Reality tv, Soap operas, and most science fiction shows. (I really dont know why, I dont dislike  it in theory but somehow the way most sci fi novels or tv shows go I just end up feeling very bored or annoyed. Yes even Battlestar Galactica. Doctor Who is a rare exception and that’s in part because they will occasionally go back in time, which I LOVE.)

What was the first TV show you were obsessed with?

Sailor Moon! and Power Rangers. And if you REALLY wanna go back far, then My Little Pony. I loved that show and I am not ashamed! (mostly cause I was 7 at the time) the funny thing was I didn’t really care about owning any ponies…

What TV show do you wish you never watched?

Glee, it lied and deceived me into thinking it was a sweet and fun harmless show! Only to slap me in the face with racism and irritating stereotypes and finally latent misogyny *curses* But otherwise it’s rare I hate a show so much that I wish I never watched it even after I drop it from my watch list.

What's the weirdest show you enjoyed?

Doctor Who, Lost, Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes. There may be others but I can’t think of them.

What TV show scared you the most?

oh man any episode of doctor who that Stephan Moffat wrote, *still creeped out by Blink* and that one about evil sun aliens or something. Oh and any episode from are you afraid of the dark that involved clowns. I HATE CLOWNS. And that one with the creepy specs. *shudders* still gives me the heebs! That’s all I can think of though.

What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched?

The Chappelle Show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Community and Psych all make/made me laugh real hard. (oh do Looney Tunes count? Cause those hilarious too)

Which do you think is the best TV series ever made?

I have no idea. That’s a hard decision to make! I suspect when I see The Wire I’ll choose that one as that is what everyone who has seen it told me.

Yes I am alive, if anyone is still reading this anymore and wondering wtf happened to me. I just sort of got caught up with lots of shit. But anyway I'm back! and Regular updates of my journal should being again posthaste. I have so much crap I need to cover that I dont know where to start, so since this is a new year, I will only talk about what's going on right now and in the near future and pretend that I already said all I needed to say about the last few months.

Anyway firstly I have dropped quite a few shows and picked up quite a few other shows in the transition between the fall tv season to the new spring/winter one we are in right now.
My current watch list for anyone who is curious includes the following:
Leverage (SO SO SO EXCITED ABOUT NEW EPISODES THIS MONTH EEEEE!)
White Collar (this was quite enjoyable and breezy fun, something I was sure about when I first started watching. It can tip into the generic at times but normally it saves itself before it starts becoming really predictable and stale, it would help I think if Jeff Eastin wrote all the episodes since so far his are the only eps that have really been great while everything else has either been ok-acceptable and half decent)
Modern Family (I put off watching it for weeks, thinking ti was just another family sitcom and while it is in some ways in many ways it really is a new modern take on the family. more importantly though it's FUNNY)
Community (love this show SO MUCH and I await the rest of the season's episodes with great anticipation!)
Skins (I dont know why I am still watching this considering the amount of journal space I spent bitching about season 3 but darn it I just love emily, naomi, jj and thomas too much to stop!)
Ashes to Ashes (this beautiful mindfucking eighties drama of my heart returns this season. Hurray!)
Psych (All I can say about this drama is "YAY" and that's all I ever need to say)

True Blood I am also still watching, it's not starting again until the summer months though but casting news shows that season 3 of true blood will have even MORE supernatural hotties and insane plotlines. Oh why cant it be summer now? D:

So apparently the BBC is doing a drama about Lennon and Yoko Onno (but mostly their nude behinds) and I for one am ALL for it. The best part is the fantastic Christopher Eccleston is playing Lennon, AWESOME SAUCE. What's funny is I had no idea it was Eccleston until I read the BBC press pack, I was looking at the trailer and wondering "who is this hot dude playing Lennon?" and LO AND BEHOLD it is my original british crush Eccleston! It's also nice to see that my old suspicion that Eccleston would be less foxy with long hair was totally wrong. Way to rock the shit out of the hippie hair dude *thumbs up* He also looks at least 10 years younger than he actually is. Also I chuckled at the pic of eccleston!lennon's bare bum because i've seen the original pics and Lennon had a super pasty pancake bum. Whereas Eccleston's bum is clearly the toned and firm bum of a proffessional actor who knew he'd be flashing his arse very soon. I am not complaining though. ever. lol
Basically checking the press packs for upcoming dramas it seems like there will be alot of awesome on the BBC this season. So far dramas that have piqued my interest include:
Mrs. Mandela (a movie about winnie mandela? hell yes I am watching this)
Luther (I am not a fan of police dramas or thrillers, I am however a fan of Idris Elba and I can easily overlook my dislike for crime dramas with good writing. So chances are high that I will check this one out)
Lennon Naked (really with a title like that how can I say no? Also CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON. and...CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON NAKED)
Material Girl (the lead actress looks super cute and I am always amazed when a woman or man of color is allowed to headline a drama, it's just such a rare thing. not so crazy about the fashion setting but we'll see. maybe this will vill the void left by ugly betty when it stopped being coherant and i had to drop it)
Money (You know I love the eighties right? Well I also love Nick Frost and have an odd fondness for Vincent Karthieser even though he still looks 16. but he is a good actor and this sounds like the sort of drama I'd enjoy)
Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister (I really love that the BBC does dramas like this, a focus on an intelligent fascinating woman, who is a lesbian and plus all the lovely trappings of a period piece. I will definitely give this one a shot!)

I am also eyeing A Passionate Woman because Billie Piper is indeed one very foxy lady and I do love me some forbidden romances, hopefully this one will be more sexy and exciting than Secret Diary of a Call girl was. (you'd think a show about a sex worker would be more racy and fun wouldnt you? but you'd be wrong!)

AND OF COURSE. New and Improved Doctor Who! Now 100% less RTD shenanigans! and 50% less emo angst and 60% more gorgeous redhead! woo! Bring on the Moffat! (I want to add now that I like Matt Smith's face shape and body build like 40283028x more than I ever did Tennant's. My flist can now proceed in stoning me if they wish)

ALSO. Cant forget that the winter olympics are coming! WEEEE. I love the olympics, plus I know more of the winter athletes by name. *pulls out GO USA banner*

and that is all ladies and germs! (and lady germs) I will hopefully have more substantial things to update about next time. I have sort of kept up with lj, but basically drop me a line and say hi if we havent talked in a while. :D I'd love to hear what everyone else is watching this season! (I might put up a poll in my next entry actually)

First of all happy halloween everyone! I actually started writing this post yesterday and finished it now. I wish I had something halloweeny to post today but I really dont. I thought about posting about horror films I liked over the years, until I realized I barely ever watch any and most of the ones I've seen are asian. So not very halloweeny then.

So because I am in the midst of yet another celebreity fixation/crush etc, this time I am actually going to post about it. My last one, for anyone who is curious, was the lovely John Simm (who I am still fond of, of course just in a less...obssesive manner) and this time it is Tim Roth.
I know you must be asking yourself now "Is she going to devote a whole post to Tim Roth?" and Yes, yes I am." and if you are thinking "But why?" I have only one response for you. "Why not?"

So my first run in with Roth was in the classic film Pulp Fiction. In comemoration of that, a clip:

I love how Roth pretty much speaks the same way in Lie to Me. With that slight (and sometimes not so slight) cockney. It's funny but it was also weird as hell to hear him without it in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. Speaking of which!

I saw the film last night. It was alot of fun, plenty of silly wordplay but I think Gary Oldman just about stole the show from Tim on a few occasions. He was really good and funny, Tim got to be the smart one in that pair while poor ol Roscencrantz (Oldman) was often two steps behind, not that it stopped him from making of a bunch of scientific discoveries (though without actually realizing their significance at all. lol) Both men spent the majority of the film disoriented and more than a little confused. It was fun watching Roth and Oldman mess around for pretty much most of the movie. Just to give an idea of the tone, here is a couple of short clips:

I personally loved how Rosencrantz would fuck around and do dumb things and Guildenstern (Roth) would glare at him or scold him most of the time but other times just play along. It was also funny how Guildenstern kept having these existential and philosphical thoughts and theories, often hilariously convoluted. Oldman and Roth played really well off each other. I was sad when the movie ended as it meant no more tomfoolery from those two. Speaking of the end my thoughts on the grand finish aka spoilers! ) In more shallow observations I was surprised by how thick Roth's hair used to look. Man 19 years will really do a number on your hairline.

This morning I saw another old film starring the Roth. It is called Captives. The story is about a female dentist, who is working in a british prison (WHY is she working there you ask? I have no idea. Girlfriend is crazy obv) and Roth is an inmate and thusly one of her patients and...well I think you can see where this is going. But just in case you cant I'll spell it out. THEY FALL IN LUURRRRVE. But the movie is thankfully not even remotely sappy but instead dark, intense, dirty and a little bit violent. Just how I like all my love stories! Anyway I wont put any clips but rather here is a link to the whole film on YT: http://www.youtube.com/user/HarveyProductions#g/u

On an objective level the film is deeply mediocre, I mean I enjoyed it because it had Tim Roth lol. In fact if anyone wants a non fangirl serious review of the film you can find one here: http://www.prisonflicks.com/reviews.php?filmID=49 I stumbled on to it by accident. But it sums up the film very well. I think for all it's faults it's worth it to watch Tim talking with that cockney of his and using those menacing stares he pretty much uses in every thing he's been in even when he's not supposed to be menacing, seriously I dont even think he was trying to be menacing half the time he was staring at the heroine in this film but it just LOOKS menacing anyway! I figure half the time he was supposed to be staring at the heroine with affection or wariness but he just looks like he wants to eat her. and not in the good way, but in the hannibal lector way.

Photobucket a random cap.

Oh! Funny bit of trivia. Anthony Hopkins was kind of not sure he wanted to play Hannibal, so the movie execs were considering Tim Roth instead! So if Hopkins had turned it down, Roth would have likely been Hannibal. Imagine that, Roth, a small menacing cannibal. Sorry I know I'll never get tired of making cracks about his height (or his age *immature*) but I have no doubt he would have been a suitably terrifying Hannibal. At least if his character in Rob Roy is anything to go by. For those who havent seen Rob Roy. Roth's character in that film was pretty much a sociopath. A clip! for anyone curious of Archibald Cunningham, the villainous english count Roth played:

Finally to conclude this very pointless post. I will give you the reason this whole thing started. Two...three words "Lie to Me". Now as you all know, I checked the show on a whim cause roth was in it and I liked the premise. and a new love was born! So I will end with a Lie to Me picspam...or rather I WAS going to but then I got tired and swamped with school work again. So here's a link to a bunch to a post with lots of pretty caps instead: http://vanillabiscuit.livejournal.com/57961.html#cutid1

Everyone should check out Lie to Me. It's an awesome show, and you get to see Tim Roth point and yell at people "You're lying!" what more could you need to have an enriching television experiance?
sisterjune: (Default)
I saw the film Waitress last night. It's a really beautiful film and I recommend it to everyone. I thought the story was very empowering and uplifting, particularly to women who are having a hard time the way the heroine of the film was. She's undergoing alot but she's never self pitying or defeatist and at the end she makes two very important and powerful decisions about her life. It's hard for me to go into detail beyond this without spoiling, and I really want people to go into this as I did, blind. Nathan Fillion was really lovely in it and charming, it was odd to see him play an awkward slightly nervous guy since the last time I saw him he was leading a ship of misfits across space. some words about Nathan Fillion and Castle )

I also attempted to watch Vampire Diaries last night, and unfortunately I just couldnt stand it. It's not that it was bad (well it IS bad but that's not the problem) I mean I expected to be more witty and occult I guess? It just felt like your typical teen show but with vampires in it. more bitching here ) Ah well, cant love em all I guess!

I've decided to drop Gossip Girl and House. I'll follow House's proceedings via the house_cuddy comm, since that's really the only aspect of the show I care much about. and While I love hugh laurie and I'll keep an eye on him as house because of that, I was never particularly fond of the character House himself. He's kind of a huge douche. which I get is the point but still.

In other news Glee continues to be blah but I cant stop watching it just yet. (especially not after that recent news about whedon directing an ep!) I liked the whole Puck/Rachel thing in this weeks ep, I hope they actually can form a friendship at some point but the ending didnt really seem to support that personally I think it's a little odd how little puck seems to be bothered that quin is carrying his CHILD, but previews for the next week or so seem to indicate he hasnt totally forgotten about that (I also FFed through very Emma/Willa scene, they annoyed me that much with their treacly saccharine crap that just glosses over the fact that they are both selfish cheating assholes)

I Love Community. Have I said that? I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I want more people to watch this show so bad. Hell if I can figure out a way to do so, I wanna send a letter to Dan Harmon thanking him for making this show so even if it does get cancelled after this season he knows there are people who appreciated his effort and his story. Apparently Community and it's characters were based heavily on Harmon's own experiances which explains so much why it feels so real and honest even when it's being quirky and odd in it's humor or plots. I love how real everything feels honestly and I sympathize so strongly with alot of the characters. It's strange how familiar alot of them feel, and each day I find myself relating with Britta more strongly. the reasons this show is so wonderful to me ) Anyway everyone NEEDS to watch this, it's funny, it's fresh, it's not full of horrible gender and race cliches, it's smart and best of all it'll make you smile at the end. I gaurantee you, everytime. I am still SO HAPPY THAT IT GOT A FULL SEASON ORDER. However I realized something, I'm not happy enough with just one season. I want another and another and another! So that's why, I am doing a damn pimp post. All y'all better prepare yourselves!

Lie to Me this week was also amazing and I went through a ridiculous amount of grief to finally get a hold of the file since I only got half the ep thanks to stupid baseball running over time. However it was all worth it cause it was a GREAT intense ep, tim roth excels so much at the intense stuff and my shipper heart did many leaps at all the lovely Cal/Gillian interaction at the end. This show just gets better every week. I am counting down the days to the inevitable Cal kicks everyone's ass in poker episode. I loved it when Pysch did it, and I loved it when The Mentalist did it and I know I'm gonna love it when Lie2Me does it too. (speaking of the Roth, I recieved my DVD copy of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead yesterday! CANT WAIT TO WATCH IT *bounces with joy*)

To conclude this entry: White Collar's pilot airs tonight! (one of these days I am gonna watch Burn Notice. I have a feeling I'd like it)
sisterjune: (Default)
Merlin 202: Loved it and I dont give a shit what fandom is saying. I'm just going to start ignoring merlin fandom like I do true blood fandom. Cause I can see already it's just gonna be waves of annoying bitching every week and you know what? I can do without it. One thing I will say is, the way the writers have consistently failed to actually give Gwen any significant characterization is fucked up and I'm going to give them until the end of this season to change that before I start to reconsider how much I like this show. Cause I'll be honest, I like arthur and merlin but I'm watching for the girls at this point.

Anyway now why did I love it? The premiere was meh to me but this was better. For one we saw arthur get just a bit more self aware, not much though, we saw the seeds of arthur/gwen finally sown. Merlin finally lost his shit at being treated like crap all the time. Gwen got to have more than five lines. Someone finally told Arthur in plain words what a dick he is. and the villain of the week actually came off as scary and threatening this time. I'm sad we've seen the last of him.

But BEST OF ALL:
Photobucket

I laughed so hard I turned blue. It's doubly funny when you factor in that Bradley James cant cook to save his life either. Bless whoever came up with the plot development of Arthur attempting to cook, I'm just sorry we didnt actually see him do anything. Cant wait to see Morgana's ep next week though! I was sad she wasnt in the ep more but I can forgive it if it means next week it's all about her.

The Mentalist 201: quite an opener here. the tone is a bit darker now and I cant decide if I like that or not yet. I do know that Simon Baker's smile still makes me melt into a puddle of goo every time. *sigh* I love how we're gonna have a jane vs bosco thing this season. bosco is jane's polar opposite and a worthy opponent and I LOVE IT. other things I loved )

Glee 04: This show is seriously blowing my mind with how good it's getting. I mean Quin pregnant? by Puck? Except she told Finn it's His? Heck yes! Quin/Puck is totally the new Chuck/Blair y'all. and Will's wife Scary Terri (as I have now dubbed her) has reached new heights of crazy and wants Quin's baby. and Sue actually said something INSPIRING in the middle of one of her crazy tirades. ALSO football players dancing to beyonce! Superfab Kurt can kick like a pro! Puck joins glee club! I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Psych 4x07: So so so good. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face pysch <3 ILU to bits. I just, I love how every week I feel like this is the best ep of the season. and this week is no different. That Boyz II men acapella version of the psych theme song was the best thing ever. I vote for it to replace the original theme..
Shawn: I wish I'd known you when you were black )

House 601: I have not watched this show since 2004, and I do know most of what's going on at the moment though, since I kept tabs on House/Cuddy/Wilson over the years (a ship(s?) I have a big soft spot for) I watched this premiere monday on a whim more than anything but wow, that shit was good. andre braugher pwnd house! )I wanna try to watch it even though I know it's gonna go back to being a medical procedural next week and I hate medical shows and I hate procedurals so I dont know how that's gonna go but we'll see.

Gossip girl 302: I liked this alot more than the premiere. Blair got her ass owned. Georgina was amazingly sympathetic for someone who is borderline insane and Dan was completely likeable for at least a half hour. Also the chuck/blair moment at the end was really adorable and felt less forced and cheesy than last week's. that's actually all I have to say about this ep. I think I forgot most of it by the time I started writing this entry lol.

Taking a break from my soul eating english research essay (and my God could my professor be any MORE of a bitch? Why is it that I always end up with the really bitchy mean english profs? Its no wonder I failed my first english requisite course 2 fucking times) to do an lj post. Wee!

Psych 406 - GREAT episode. Definitely the best so far this season and will go down as one of my series favorites. All the eps except the first two this season have been winners for me but I think this one managed to make me laugh louder and harder than any of the others so far. I just enjoyed it SO much. and I loved the bollywood dancing, theme song and throwbacks. I loved that we got to see more abigail, because while I wasnt totally sold on her at first it's nice to see shawn making her more of a part of his life. Her presence also allowed for alot of added humor, which is really the best way to put her into the show. in a way that she contributes rather than detracts from the awesome. The bit at the begininng with shawn thinking raj was a psycho killer had me cracking up so badly. and the bit with lassiter trying to one up shawn was super fun. and all the continuity! callbacks to the S2 finale, and the return of boneless shawn! The dinner scene was really the crowning glory of the whole episode though, the "I see dead people" was ten times funnier in context than it had been in the previews. Was surprised by the killer, i totally thought it would be the mom! basically I loved this one so much. It's definitely getting a rewatch!

Gossip Girl 301 - very meh episode. not much to comment on. I mean everyone is as beautiful as ever if not more so. not crazy about vanessa's hair atm though. I am interested to see how things devolop now I think they have set up some interesting plot lines. Well except for serena's plotline which is really uninspired and frail and made me wonder if the writers even really tried at all. chuck/blair at the end was cute but i feel like I should have cared more than I did. I dunno chuck being so openly sweet is a little weird. I need to adjust. Next week looks better though. Georgina returns!

Glee 01-03 - I recently started watching this show a week ago and I am enjoying it so much! This and Psych are the two shows that just fill me with pure joy everytime I watch them. I love the music aspect of Glee and I say this as someone who hates musicals normally, never cared for broadway productions, and never saw an episode of highschool musical in her life. Yet somehow I just love this show. It's quirky, it's hopeful, it''s funny, it's fresh, it's got GREAT musical numbers and most of all it has a really lovable cast of characters and some hilarious dialogue. I think 103 was the funniest episode so far. Sandy with his stalkerish love of Josh Groban and Keisha (her name is probably not keisha but she is the spitting image of my former classmate keisha) falling in love with the flamingly gay Kurt was especially hilarious.
Seriously this kid is so bright and shiny it's blinding, how anyone could not immediately realize he is gay just amuses me beyond words. While not!Keisha was dense, I felt with Kurt still having trouble saying he is gay even when it's so apparent. Admitting it is still hard even when your not really stealth about it. I remember in my english class from 2-3 years ago. thus begins the tangent ) Anyway this is just my way of saying that Kurt's feelings were a nice mirror to real life. It's nice to know between all the crazy dance numbers that these are really human characters. Also props to the glee casting people for such a diverse cast. It's one of the most diverse on tv I think. Cant wait for ep 4!

Life S1: I heard alot of things about this show, by the time I considered watching it, it had been cancelled which is usually the point where I go FORGET IT because the last thing I want is an inconclusive ending. So I put it off for a while. I eventually stumbled unto an article that talked about the finale and it seemed like most of the bigger loose ends would be tied up. So since I was running low on tv to watch, I decided “oh hell why not”?

I am so so glad I checked this out because it is really good! It’s compelling, emotional, raw and just this is so much better than 98% of television right now I cannot believe this was cancelled. That is just heartbreaking to know, because this is an amazing powerful story and it has so much more depth to me than most crime dramas on tvLife is what they gave him, and Life is what he got back )
On paper it sounds like any other crime drama that is clogging American airwaves lately, but in execution it is as different as can be. I keep thinking if Life had been on a premium cable or a cable channel it would have lasted longer. Still, I am enjoying what is out. This is really a beautiful, powerful, moving, brilliantly written, uplifting drama. and I recommend it to everybody! I havent started S2 yet but when I do I'll come back and post about it. Hopefully it can keep up this level of greatness.

Sup y'all~

So my last post was kind of angry and I wrote it in a flurry of caffeinated rage. Basically before yesterday I hadnt updated for a while and wasnt really commenting on my flist's entries for the most part. The reason is I am very busy lately with school, with getting my life together because I'm getting older, my parents are getting more burdened with expenses from my siblings and I basically need to start focusing on getting my shit together and being independent already. The only reason I havent announced a hiatus is because I do like to update my lj and respond to friend's entries whenever I feel like it. So I'll pop in now and then to say hi to people or talk about shit in my lj, but otherwise I just wont be as active online for awhile.
Anyway moving on..

I changed my layout a little while ago, it is now very pink with some black. I tend to alternate between black and pink alot with my layout coloring choices. Methinks after this one it's time to change things up. Maybe dabble in purples and yellows for a while.

TV

Leverage 209 - a bit anticlimactic for a mid season break, but it's understandable considering it wasnt originally planned for that. That being said I enjoyed it alot and I love how Tara was introduced to the team. I'm gonna miss Sophie the elegant European grifter but Tara the tough American grifter seems pretty cool too. I think the best part of the episode was Nate's HORRIBLE suits. God they were so ridiculous I loved each and every one of them. I loved Nate's character's last name "poppadockalas"? I wish he'd play that character every episode. I cant decide who I like more nate's sleazy lawyer persona or his go as a quirky german headmaster of a private school. both of those were GOLD. *sigh* no Leverage till January :(

Psych 4x05 - I am so glad this show is back! That week it skipped due to it being labor day weekend just about killed me. I need a steady dose of Psych in my life or I start to go into horrible withdrawal, I get a rash and everything people srsly. This was a great episode, I loved the beginning the most though. I really love how psych is balancing the humor and the drama lately, I mean it's definitely let itself get more intense with the cases in the later seasons but I still enjoy the show so much. It's just alot of fun no matter what. I felt the first episodes of the season were weak but everything since then has been great. and I CANT WAIT for the bollywood episode! I just know it's going to be awesome. and unlike the telenovela episode (which I loved anyway) I will actually get most of the jokes and references. Since my parents love bollywood and I've seen more than my share of bollywood films (ok about 3...and a 1/2. but believe me, it is enough)

True Blood S2 Finale This was very much not what I was expecting. and by that I mean. Deeply anti climactic. Alan Ball said this finale would be very satisfying. YOU LIED TO ME BALL! Don’t think I will forget this!
spoilers beyond this point )

Jane Eyre 2006 - started this and havent seen the final ep yet but I am struck by the liberties BBC took with the plot on this one. Usually BBC is all about being faithful to the source material. I imagine it's because they did a Jane Eyre adaptation 20 years prior and decided that this time they could just go crazy with it. That being said I cant blame them for trying to make Rochester seem like less of a douchebag. Because OMG he was so unpleasant in the book and to cap it off UGLY. I keep thinking the only reason Jane got with him was cause she was too low on herself to think she could ever do better. Plus he had money, after starving most of your life you'd probably marry any schmuck with a fancy coin purse. I think the best part is when they show Rochester's wife and she turns about to be this beautiful but insane spanish woman and she starts shrieking at Jane when she sees her "PUTA, PUTAAAA" omg I cracked up SO HARD. This is totally the crack version of Jane Eyre. Also WTF Rochester, he is ridiculously good looking and kept going on about how he is so ugly and no one can love him even though there was a gorgeous blond trying to marry him for the first 3 episodes so wtf is he on about? (he insists it's cause of his money which...ok valid) but srsly I think I yelled at my screen once "OMG STOP BEING A FUCKING GIRL AND SUCK IT UP" so ridiculous. But this is why I would never be the heroine of a romance novel or a Gothic horror novel. Cause I'd tell the Hero to STFU everytime he whined and I would NOT follow the creepy laughter in the dark ominous hallway. OMG WHY DO THAT? WHAT GOOD CAN COME OF IT?

I will end this post by saying NEW GOSSIP GIRL TONIGHT! GLEEEE~

OMFG how great was Leverage last night? I nearly passed out from the sheer AWESOME of it all!

Leverage 07 highlights )

I love this show so much. It's such a pulpy fun show. It has so many things I like, I mean the superheroes fight AU versions of themselves plot is one my favorite plotlines in comics and seeing it on tv in a heist show (which is another thing I love, heist stories!) is easily the best thing ever. I know alot of people were excited about Wil Wheaton making an appearance in this episode as an evil hacker but I...have no idea who he is :x I will say he was awesome as the evil hacker though! and Sterling is coming back next week! WOO

So I've really gotten into Pysch lately. I started watching it seriously about 2 weeks ago (whereas before I would watch eps very casually as they came on) but for whatever reason I decided I wanted to start watching the show for real and so I started from S1 with the pilot and went from there dling eps that people would recommend me the most or sounded interesting etc etc. I've watched pretty much all of S3 and S2 now, and half of S1. I missed the first episode in S4 but saw the other two.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity aka psych squee! ) It's just such a fun warm hearted show that I really cant help but love it! Especially the pysch outs. I'm gonna list my fave Psych eps so far:

S1:
Pilot
9 lives
Weekend Warriors (this one was really perfect from start to finish)
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, He Loves Me, Oops He's Dead
Scary Sherry (James Roday actually co wrote this one!)

S2:
65 Million Years Off (I laughed SO hard at this one)
If you're so smart, then why are you dead?
Lights...Camera...Homocidio!
Black and Tan: a crime of fashion (Roday also wrote this one and it was such an excellant ep!)
Shawn (and Gus) of the Dead

S3:
Murder....anyone?....anyone?..Bueller?
The Greatest Adventure in the History of Basic Cable
Lassie did a Bad, Bad thing.
An Evening with Mr.Yang (so intense! Who knew james roday could make such tormented faces. He also wrote this one btw, possibly to show he could make tormented faces?)

S4
High Noon
High Top Fade Out

aaaaand..that's all! (I'll post more bits for the five fandom things meme next post)

AWESOME FEMALE CHARACTERS RANKING

This was done as a response to darkeyedwolf's comment to my "top five fannish things meme". She asked me to name my "top five female characters" so I turned it into a ranking for my most favorite female characters of all time in dramas and tv. I left out movies and anime and comics or the list would have been impossible to narrow down to ten let alone five.

Anyway let's get started!

10. Photobucket
Theresa Lisbon (The Mentalist)
She's the no nonsense head detective of the CBI and the cheeky protagonist's opposite in every way. She is responsible, a total realist and doesn't quite get Jane and his flair for the dramatic. But she definitely loves him anyway and often gives him the benefit of the doubt in his sometimes outrageous theories and schemes. Lisbon just wants to solve crimes and catch bad guys. If that means accepting Jane's offbeat ways of crime solving then so be it. Lisbon is a good leader and an excellent cop. Always professional and always serious about her job, Lisbon also packs a big punch for such a small lady. In one episode when a suspect is on the run, Lisbon gives chase and eventually has to FLY TACKLE the suspect into the ground in order to arrest him. HARDCORE. Which is exactly what Lisbon is. and really you'd have to be kind of amazing to manage the troublesome Jane on a regular basis.

The rest of the awesome Ladies are under the cut! )

Honorable Mentions:
Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica) (though really all the women on BSG are pretty badass but Madame President is my favorite)
Zoe (Firefly)
Martha Jones (New Doctor Who Series 3)
Chen Lin (Black & White)
Alex Drake (Ashes to Ashes)
Ayumu (LIFE)
Shan Cai (Meteor Garden)
Romana I & II (Doctor Who Series 4)
Pam (True Blood)
Yankumi (Gokusen)
Eun-Chan (Coffee Prince)
Makino Tsukushi (Hana Yori Dango) jdrama version not the anime or manga.

First day back at College for me. Right now I'm blogging during my lunch break like a true geek/nerd. So far classes seem like they will go well, I havent attended my final class of the day yet which starts in 2 hours. So since I still have no viable transportation to and from school (let's not talk about how many times I've failed the driving test now) and I dont intend to walk 3 miles to get to my house. I'm stuck here. Perfect opportunity to blog about Sunday's episode of True Blood!

True Blood 09: This week's ep was INCREDIBLE. I remember reading a very glowing review about ep 9 a few days before it aired, in a tv mag I forgot which one but it was full of awe and respect for the series and I was like is she talking about the same show I'm watching? Cause I love true blood it's alot of fun but I'd never describe it as deep or meaningful but the reviewer did. After I saw this episode I understand why she did and she is totally right. True Blood was elevated to a whole other level Sunday night and I was impressed and let me tell you flist I am not easily impressed at all. This episode was game-changing, heartbreaking and completely elevated my opinion of the show (as well as the writers, actors, & alan ball) and what it could be. Basically if you're on my flist and dont watch this show, I'd recommend you start now because I think it's totally worth it to get to this point. Especially Season 2 itself has been very enjoyable whereas S1 I felt was nice but didnt become must see television for me until the final few eps of that season.

Highlights of the episode: Here comes the sun )

I will also say now I do enjoy the Mary Ann storyline and amazed at how most people cant stand it. It is a fascinating storyline and character when you actually pay attention closely to who Mary Anne is and more importantly what she represents, WHY she's so evil, WHY she's a bad thing. Like the philosophy that she goes by, why is it so bad and is it in fact all bad? (cause I think in fact it's not) Mary Ann is bad and must be stopped not cause she wants to enslave earth or kill all humans or open a portal to hell or some stereotypical supernatural villain shit but because she is a vision of selfishness, hedonism and chaos. There's something about Mary Ann... ) Basically in Mary Ann's mind she is saving everyone, making everyone happier in becoming her disciples. She's a really fascinating complex antagonist and that's my favorite kind. So I really cant tell why so many people hate this storyline cause if you look at it beyond the surface it's not just all town orgies, crazy parties and Mary Ann traipsing around talking about feelings to everyone and feeding people creepy food like "hunter souffle".

Also a meme! Been meaning to do this one for a while:
Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

You can really ask me about ANY fandom. My fandoms have spread across at least 3 continents (america, europe, asia) so really you can ask me my faves for just about anything from any medium and I'll probably be able to come up with some kind of answer.

Hello kids! I saw the BEST MUSICAL EVER, the other night. What's it called you ask?
Why it's
Photobucket
A VERY POTTER MUSICAL OF COURSE!

I recommend this to EVERYONE. But especially potter fans. I havent read the books in a while but everything was hilarious to me, it's a great great musical put on by a bunch of college students and recent grads. There's plenty more info about what the musical is, who the people behind the production are as well as the cast and why they did this at their youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/StarKidPotter. you can watch the whole play there too if you like

You can find some gifs, caps and a download link to an avi file of the entire play here:
http://bigmamag.livejournal.com/187397.html
also the dude who plays voldemort has a totally slammin bod wtf. Voldemort should not look attractive! Srsly I am so glad he got to be shirtless for almost the ENTIRE time. Speaking of shallow things, the dude who plays harry in the musical (Darren Criss) is approx 24982092x more attractive to me than Dan radcliffe ever was. But then he DOES play guitar! and can sing soulful power ballads! Seriously this was just a funny musical to me until the next to last song "You're not alone" and that was the point where I was like HOLY CRAP these guys are truly talented! It does take talent and effort to set up something like this but these arent just practical jokesters armed with prep school uniforms and access to instruments and sound equipment. They are the real deal and they could totally do serious musicals if they wanted to, they got skills, but they simply chose to make a silly musical about harry potter and show it for free. How awesome IS THAT? (I am so keeping an eye out for future projects from these guys. these are our generation's puccinis, tchaikovskys and mozarts...no rly.) and also the girl (yes girl: Lauren Lopez) who plays Malfoy? HYSTERICAL. After the play she was totally my favorite. So so funny. Everyone was great but I think she and Darren were the stand outs.

I'm such a nerd that I joined [livejournal.com profile] ontdpigfarts soon after watching the musical. If you like it I suggest you join the comm too. (I got sorted into [livejournal.com profile] ravenbawww! apparently this means I'm classy. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE CLASSY! YAY)

and Props to [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna for pimpin this in her lj or I'd never have known ok I would have probably known about eventually since nothing stays secret for long in fandom but it would have taken much longer! and watching it so made my day. It will make your day too guys! OMG watch it!

Skins: My God I'm sure you are all sick of whining about how much Season 3 annoyed me but I really just want to say this one last thing then I swear I wont bitch about Skins ever again (or rather not until S4 next year)
I finally saw ep 7 from S2 which is Effy's episode and it was not only amazing and emotional and hella dramatic but Effy was SO fucking cool in it! and what kills me about it she was ten times more interesting, active, likeable and well developed in that SINGLE episode than she was ALL of season 3!let the bitching begin.. )

For some positivity I want to say that I am enjoying Season 2 of skins SO MUCH. I am like glued to my comp screen and I'm already down to the last 3 eps if though I only started watching yesterday. I cant say that it's more cohesive than S1 and it's definitely more melodramatic but I really do feel convinced by all the emotions exploding all over the place. S2 is alot more intense and dramatic than S1 but still manages to have quite a quirky sense of humor. more S2/1st gen cast squee )
I'll probably post one more time about skins when I see the rest of S2 and after that it's back to blogging about other things until January (when S4 starts airing and yes i'm watching it cause I'm a masochist and also love JJ and Naomi too much not to)

Leverage 05 - I LOVED THIS EP SO MUCH OMG. I'm Monica freaking hunter and I'm on a hunt for the TRUTH )

College resumes for me in 5 days. :(
sisterjune: (Default)
True blood 08 - OMG THIS EPISODE WAS 2938389 SHADES OF KICASS AND AWESOME.

1 - RAMBO!JASON. WOOO. I love how he suddenly gets SRS BZNS when people insult his sister or he finds out she's in trouble. it's very cool. and also he took out newline with A PAINTBALL GUN. Seriously after ep 8 Jason became 20982x more endearing to me. I mean before I just found him kind of a joke though I never disliked him. He's hysterical
2- The "trust me" scene with Eric and Sookie? HOT. I was ambivalent about them getting together before that point but now, hell yeah I ship it! (but it's really not the end of the world if they dont become the show's OTP/end game couple. cause honestly there's more to true blood than who is fucking sookie ok people.)
3. POOR SAM. wtf he can never get a break :(
4. I LOVED the horror aspect of this show. I cannot stress this enough. Daphe in the freezer? sauteing her heart and then PUTTING IT IN A SOUFFLE AND FEEDING IT TO EGGS AND TARA? WTFFFF. but so so great. I was like UWAAAAAAAH. the whole time.
5. Eric at the beginning with the dorky southern accent! I LOLed. I LOVE when skarsgaard gets to be quirky or sardonic, he's SO good at it. I LOVED watching him taunt bill. I really want him to kick bill's ass one day. I'm counting down to the point where bill FINALLY pisses off Sookie and Eric takes advantage of it like woah.
This reminds me of this awesome pic where he is making ridiculous faces and anna paquin and stephan moyer are staring at him with WTF? faces. God I loved that, he is too cool for them both srsly.
6. GODRIC. YOU ARE A SEXY MOFO OK? I loved how Godric was the "dumbledore of vampires" (to quote one lj user) he was all tiny and wise. I loved it, the actor they got to play him is hella cute. I hate how much the make up on this show washes out the vampire people. I mean it's really ugly and also clearly not used on everyone since faux cowboy vampire didnt look sickly pale the way moyer, eric and godric do.
7. Lafayette does tarot! I didnt think it was possible but I like him even MORE now.
8. Jessica and hoyt fucking! YAY. Not so yay about Jessica being an eternal virgin now :(
9. LOL Lorena vs Sookie bitchfight! I SO WANTED TO SEE THAT HAPPEN. I am immature I know :( But I love some chaos and discord. Lorena was just embarrassing to watch, in fact both of them were but it was pretty funny I cant lie. I'm just sad there was no Pam :(
10. GAH I LOVE THIS SHOW. I liked the eps before this but I LOVED this one and I'm so glad the season is really getting into gear now.

Also I swear if I hear one more person complaining that the show is not being "accurate" to the book I will CUT A BITCH. Book and TV are totally different mediums people need to wake the fuck up and realize that changes WILL BE MADE. Shit that works in books is not always going to work in film media, these are the facts. Now people can either accept this or stop watching the show and leave the rest of us who DO like it alone. GAD.

Also some brief blabbery about skins which I will expound upon in a later post:
Brief thoughts on Skins Seasons 1 and 3 )
sisterjune: (Default)
Ok I just saw the first teaser trailer for the burton alice in wonderland film coming out march of next year, and holy crap it was so awesome looking!
It' like alice movie I always wanted to see and never could. and I've seen ALOT of alice movies over the years cause I love love Alice in Wonderland. I am still so amazed this movie is even happening. I mean my God, Johnny Depp? Burton? ALICE IN WONDERLAND? It's like 3 of my most favorite things ever, in one place and helena bonham carter is in it too! PLEASE TELL ME SHE IS THE QUEEN OF HEARTS SHE WOULD OWN THAT ROLE SO HARD. I'm surprised it took Burton this long to do this because Alice is gothic horror and that's been burton's niche since the 1980's. Perhaps he was waiting for the right moment?
Minor nitpicks though, I am not crazy about all the CGI I am seeing lately, not necessarily just in this movie but in general. and Ranting in 5..4..3..2..1 ) That being said I believe Burton's intention is to blend animation with live action in this adaptation so that would make what I'm saying kind of irrelevant to the film.

Photobucket
On that note I want to talk about My favorite Alice in Wonderland movie of ALL TIME (at least until I see burton's adaptation). Jonathan Miller's Alice in Wonderland. It was actually a weird conceptual play originally. It was filmed in 1966, and directed by Jonathan Miller who I am told is/was famous in UK theatre but I have no idea if that's true cause I didnt know he or this film existed until 4-5 years ago when I watched this in I cant remember if it was English or Creative Writing class, possibly the latter.more on this film here ) As a book adaptation it's rather avante garde actually and radical. But as a film that's inspired by alice it really couldnt be anymore perfect. and I would even dare say it better captures the essence of the Alice books than any other adaptation has.

Here is a clip of on YT from the film to give everyone an idea of what I'm going on about here.

it's not the most surreal scene in the film or the best scene but it gives a good idea of the tone.

Tv: Supersizers in Ancient rome! Cue excited and most irrelevant babbling )

Leverage 03: Great episode! It's so great how they are changing it up this season and messing with the core formula, in the last episode the team got caught out and in this one they go about securing the mark in a much different and IMO more hilarious way than usual.
Did you just make a guy's nose bleed with the power of your mind? )

I will wrap up my post with this: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii243/n1oora/19897467.jpg There should be a law against two people looking that gorgeous and perfect together, really. *jumping up and down with excitement for GG S3*

Is it September yet?
sisterjune: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] gilesandperks

OMG what? there is a Supersizers lj community!? That is AWESOME! *immediately joins*

and You guys have me convinced! I am so watching North & South now...or rather after I finish up Gossip Girl S2. but soon oh yes :D Speaking of GG, Just when I think Blair cant get any more crazy or Chuck cant get anymore hot. it HAPPENS. This show is basically the best thing ever, even though it can be really dumb sometimes and has no concept of the time space continuum or basic physics and Dan is still a huge douchebag but it doesnt matter cause Serena is always awesome no matter how many sucky bfs she ends up with. and one day I may actually say something coherent and somewhat profound about this show, but today is not that day.

Anyway, flist I need your help! now that I am part of a certain comm, I have access to all sorts of bbc period drama goodness so I ask you oh wise and wonderful flist. What BBC period dramas (or any kind of period dramas really I aint picky. but let's stay within europe for the mean time) would you guys recommend to me? Dont worry about if I've seen something or not before just rec me your favorites!

Leverage 02: this week's leverage was wonderful as only Leverage can be <3 I loved that they got CAUGHT in the middle of their con! That never happens and it startled the bejeezus out of me and I started to wonder wtf is gonna happen now. I also totally worried for eliot and I did not want to see him in pain ;_; no not his beautiful yet rugged face! But really what was the best about them getting caught was HOW they got caught and by who. More squee under the cut! ) ILU show <3 and ILU parker for putting a SAXOPHONE in that guy's trunk. Girl you are so crazy <3

I wanna take a minute to talk about a period movie I saw recently called I am Dina
Which is easily one of the most fucked up things I've seen in a long time. but not THE most fucked up movie I ever saw cause THAT honor will always be reserved to the movie "Osama" which I only recommend if you enjoy feeling like someone stabbed you in the face for several hours after it's over and being haunted by the sounds of creaky buckets for 3 nights in a row. *cough*
Anyway, Dina herself is really talented and brilliant and gorgeous. She could ride horses, keep accounts and manage her money and property very well. She sometimes wore men's clothes but could kick it in ladies frocks too and she was a damn fine musician. Unfortunately, Dina is also bugfuck CRAZY. Which is actually kind of awesome cause it means she does stuff like beat the shit out of her dad for slapping her, writes coded love letters using numbers/math, stays up all night playing cello or fucking her way too old husband, throws his dead corpse down a cliff in a blizzard, nearly commits suicide, falls in love with a Russian anarchist, later kills him AND quite possibly rapes the stable boy/man..several times. It's basically a puccini opera combined with a gothic horror novel combined with various "avante garde" ideas from a hash smoking NYU film student.Which is to say it was AWESOME and crazy depressing and bizarrely compelling all at once. )

Well that wraps up this post! good day to you all XOXO (I will do this until I stop watching gossip girl methinks)
sisterjune: (Default)
Hello flist! Lots to cover today but first things first:

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] kipani_mariko!

I suck so much for not doing this yesterday but I had my reasons, namely being very out of it for most of yesterday and not realizing it was the 21st until very late. Tai's summer usually involves walking around barely realizing what time of day or date it is and plenty of junk food. I am so fat now. I'VE GAINED FIVE POUNDS *SOBS*

Anyway whining and excuses aside. You are a wonderful friend <3 and the last two years knowing you have been great, well not great in general but the time spent speaking to you itself was great! yes and I hope you have a really great year!
Ok ok that was the worst birthday blog post ever. -_- Hopefully my gift will make it up to you though, it should arrive by the next week or so. :D (with a colorful sappy card! yay!)

Tv: I have been watching alot of stuff lately! YAY. Mainly though I've recently gotten into Gossip Girl. Yes Gossip Girl. DEAL WITH IT.
Ahh it is such a great trainwreck show, with crazy drama and bitchy ladies and hot...everybody really. What I love most about gossip girl though? NONE of the female characters annoy me! NOT EVEN ONE! and The fandom isnt full of woman hating pyschos and slashers! (like almost every other fandom on the internet. But best part is there is FEMME SLASH. WAH IT EXISTS. It also has the best couple to ever exist on tv ever. Chuck & Blair. My glee tis a gleeful thing! )

Also Gossip Girl makes me really want to watch Skins. Which I have been meaning to watch for the last YEAR AND A HALF and still havent gotten around to it. FAIL
Speaking of BBC shows I want to see. North & South! I so need to see this! It looks awesome and sounds like a period drama with a bit of a romance plot which is my fave combination in a bbc drama! They do period dramas so so well.
In fact I was really looking forward to checking out their newest period drama Desperate Romantics. I was like "Ohhh a drama about the pre-raphaelite painters? Sounds interesting!" So then I go read up on the Pre-raphaelite painters, in one of my big art history books. So I can better appreciate the drama...BIG MISTAKE. Allow me a moment of ranting if you will ) That being said the New Romantics were totally the rock stars of their time in a way and so I do get why the BBC would make a show about them and I dont discourage anyone from seeing it. But then I would never discourage people from learning about history in any way. Perhaps more people will become interested in art history because of this show!

True Blood ep5: Alot of people hated this episode because it was slow moving and repetitive. all of this is true. however I did not hate it. Why? Because of this scene:

PURE EPIC. I suddenly wish the whole show was now about vampire viking erik and his pretty vampire buddy Godric and their travails through ancient Scandinavia.

Leverage: BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER BABY. Oh how did I manage so long without this show? ;_; I love how the shit has been switched up on Nate. Because after pretty much looking down on his team all of last season for being criminals (despite WORKING for him and using their shady expertise to help people the entire time) they have now latched unto him and own his apartment and they will never ever ever leave. plus Sophie moved on and got a new man! SUCK IT NATE. I also died laughing when I found out his apartment was placed OVER A BAR which is hilarious only if you know he's a recovering alcoholic. I swear that man is a masochist or in Eliot's words "Very Catholic". Also the Parker/Hardison moment <3
I am so looking forward to tonight's episode and YES I DID NOT FORGET THIS TIME ABOUT IT.

I really want to do an OTPs ranking lately. Mostly so I can have an excuse to gush about chuck/blair some more but really it sounds like a fun idea. I wanna do one for my platonic OTPs too actually...
Well that's all! You know you love me~XOXO (yes that is a gg reference. *dodges rocks*)

I saw the new Harry Potter movie today and it was so good that I decided to blog about it!.

You know i've seen the last 5 movie installments in this franchise. and I dont remember hating or even really disliking any of them. The first two potter films were nice but not especially memorable (but i could say the same for the first two potter books though I actuallly liked the 2nd one alot) and the 3rd one was filmed in a very interesting way and is possibly my second fave potter film. the 4th one was alot of fun but was basically shot like a major action film. The 5th one had some beautiful shots but the scenes shifted SO fast and the film just felt like all over the place and i barely remember it. But this one is easily my favorite of the bunch and I think is the first harry potter film to really impress me. This film actually MOVED me, the other ones entertained me but this one made me got me in the heart. I cried and I freaked out and I laughed and I was just utterly completely sucked in.

Something wicked AWESOME this way comes.... )

So so much awesome. Basically a great film, I recommend it to EVERYONE, whether you read the books or not but especially if you did. It actually managed to renew my love for Harry Potter for a whole 3 hours. I might even actually read the 7th book now cause I never did (but of course I read all the spoilers) and now I really feel like I wanna know how events proceed now rather than wait the 5 years the next two films will take and yes TWO cause someone had the bright idea of splitting the 7th book into two parts.

Title is courtesy of the brilliant twisted writer on the true blood staff who decided to name one of the vampire porno flicks on sookie's tv in her texas hotel room with that title. Really the fact that their is vampire porno flicks at all is kind of awesome.

True Blood 2-04
Ok this episode was AWESOME from start to finish. I've been enjoying the season so far but alot of bits of each episode were boring or moved slowly for me. Now that the stories are starting to converge and really get going, the show is becoming much more fast paced and enjoyable. So much crazy shit happened in this ep, and I'm again reminded of why despite the ridiculous stuff that happens this show never takes itself too seriously, it's FUN to watch and when it's not fun it can really be a terrifying horror esque show. I for one enjoy the flexibility in tone.

This shit is BANANAS )

PS: It's a shame there's alot of people not happy about Evan Rachel wood being cast in the show as the queen vampire of Louisiana. I mean she's one of the few actual southern actors! Or maybe I'm just happy about her being there cause she's from my city and state. North Carolina REPRESENT.

Books:

Currently reading "Dont Tempt Me" (among other things) the latest novel out by the awesome Loretta Chase and the second novel in her "fallen women" series, the first being "Your Scandalous Ways" which was about a courtesan and I have not read yet but plan to. I heard alot of mixed reviews about "dont tempt me" and so I worried I wouldnt like it but it's actually rather lovely so far!

My impressions so far )

Frankly I'm happy Chase has started this series cause while I loved Mr Impossible, the rest of the Heroines of the carsington series books (her last series), were kind of boring. They pretty much all had that same stuffy super practical keep their emotions close to the vest thing going even if deep down they were much more lively that particular trait just gets old after a while, and it's cool if it was one heroine or two but pretty much every single one of them was like that (well admittedly not as much bathsheba the heroine of Lord Perfect, though she was nothing extraordinary either), while there was a much greater variation in the personalities of the Carsington brothers. So Chase writing heroines that are alot different from the ones she's had in the past is a very good thing. and Really it's about time the not so pristine and virtuous ladies of romancelandia got some love too!

The next book in this series incidentally is a continuation of Peregrine and Olivia's story. Who were both precocious quirky teenagers back in the Carsington series book "Lord Perfect' and despite being secondary characters in that novel they were what made it worth reading for me. So I am VERY excited to see what happened to them after 8 or some years. Yet another reason to look forward to 2010, it just cant come quick enough for me now.
