True blood 08 - OMG THIS EPISODE WAS 2938389 SHADES OF KICASS AND AWESOME.

1 - RAMBO!JASON. WOOO. I love how he suddenly gets SRS BZNS when people insult his sister or he finds out she's in trouble. it's very cool. and also he took out newline with A PAINTBALL GUN. Seriously after ep 8 Jason became 20982x more endearing to me. I mean before I just found him kind of a joke though I never disliked him. He's hysterical
2- The "trust me" scene with Eric and Sookie? HOT. I was ambivalent about them getting together before that point but now, hell yeah I ship it! (but it's really not the end of the world if they dont become the show's OTP/end game couple. cause honestly there's more to true blood than who is fucking sookie ok people.)
3. POOR SAM. wtf he can never get a break :(
4. I LOVED the horror aspect of this show. I cannot stress this enough. Daphe in the freezer? sauteing her heart and then PUTTING IT IN A SOUFFLE AND FEEDING IT TO EGGS AND TARA? WTFFFF. but so so great. I was like UWAAAAAAAH. the whole time.
5. Eric at the beginning with the dorky southern accent! I LOLed. I LOVE when skarsgaard gets to be quirky or sardonic, he's SO good at it. I LOVED watching him taunt bill. I really want him to kick bill's ass one day. I'm counting down to the point where bill FINALLY pisses off Sookie and Eric takes advantage of it like woah.
This reminds me of this awesome pic where he is making ridiculous faces and anna paquin and stephan moyer are staring at him with WTF? faces. God I loved that, he is too cool for them both srsly.
6. GODRIC. YOU ARE A SEXY MOFO OK? I loved how Godric was the "dumbledore of vampires" (to quote one lj user) he was all tiny and wise. I loved it, the actor they got to play him is hella cute. I hate how much the make up on this show washes out the vampire people. I mean it's really ugly and also clearly not used on everyone since faux cowboy vampire didnt look sickly pale the way moyer, eric and godric do.
7. Lafayette does tarot! I didnt think it was possible but I like him even MORE now.
8. Jessica and hoyt fucking! YAY. Not so yay about Jessica being an eternal virgin now :(
9. LOL Lorena vs Sookie bitchfight! I SO WANTED TO SEE THAT HAPPEN. I am immature I know :( But I love some chaos and discord. Lorena was just embarrassing to watch, in fact both of them were but it was pretty funny I cant lie. I'm just sad there was no Pam :(
10. GAH I LOVE THIS SHOW. I liked the eps before this but I LOVED this one and I'm so glad the season is really getting into gear now.

Also I swear if I hear one more person complaining that the show is not being "accurate" to the book I will CUT A BITCH. Book and TV are totally different mediums people need to wake the fuck up and realize that changes WILL BE MADE. Shit that works in books is not always going to work in film media, these are the facts. Now people can either accept this or stop watching the show and leave the rest of us who DO like it alone. GAD.

Also some brief blabbery about skins which I will expound upon in a later post:
I saw both S1 and S3 so far. and I really prefer the first generation cast. I just felt like they were more developed, more real, their struggles and drama felt more organic rather than manufactured, the writing felt more thought through, character's actions make more sense and in general it just had more emotional impact on me. Plus I loved how they were all friends despite being a diverse group of people.

S3 with the new cast feels more like a trendy teen drama, like it could be any teen show, not skins. Skins was gritty and real and also very surreal at times in fact and had that indie vibe to it. but S3 definitely feels more conventional and there is this annoying love triangle in it that is really the core problem of S3. Cause I did love alot of the characters. I mean wtf love triangle? It's one of the oldest most obnoxious teen drama and soap opera tropes in the book. WHY use it? They could have achieved alot of the same amounts of drama and tension without it.
Anyway, the second generation isnt bad though, s3 cast is likable enough. I just wish they had the same amount of depth, character growth and focus on familial struggles as the first cast did ya know? There's so much drama about this love triangle which to me doesnt make sense. Also the ties of friendship feel very cheap and frail in this drama for pretty much up until the very end, then things get a bit better. I dont know it feels like they are speaking to a younger audience with the S3. and I really didnt hate it but it just could have been SO much better. and after the perfection of S1. I expected more. S3 does have it's high points though and I wanna go more in depth about S3 and S1 in another post cause I could really write several posts about Skins.

I don't mind a lot of the changes, but there are somethings I wish they would get rid of...like mary-ann's on going role. It needs to be rapped up now. But there are some key things that happen in future books that really need to be put into the show, but I'm sure they will.

Well the season is ending in four more eps apparently so Maryann's arc will be wrapped soon enough I imagine.
I think Alan ball said he'd be straying a bit. I personally dont mind, it's like the last time I got worked up over an adaptation's faithfulness to source material it was the 3rd harry potter movie and the first time I saw it I was hella pissed off at the things that were changed. But the second time I saw it I loved it cause I saw it for what it was a film version of Harry. So it's gonna be different cause it's a film and as a film it's lovely. But anyway! I digress. Basically I think Ball is doin alright. I hope he wont stray TOO far from the books though cause then it might just start to get OOC and lose cohesiveness.

I don't mind at the moment because Alan hasn't done anything wrong. But since I read all the books, I do think some of the more pivotal things should be transferred from book to show. But of course I don't expect everything that happened in the book to happen in the show since most of that stuff just wouldn't look right. But I have a separate love for the books and show and so far so good.

Love triangle aside, the S3 characters really didn't seem real at all. I couldn't care what happened to them. And there's only one more series to fill them out, cause series 5 is gonna have a brand new cast again. Assuming they get that far that is.

sorry this got long

Oh you saw it then? Or between now and the last comment? I finished it in about 3 days myself though. and that's my thing I didnt care about the s3 kids as much as I did the last cast and I really wanted to! I will say I really liked Naomi, Emily and Thomas and I did like Pandora until that icky shit with Cook happened. Cook is interesting to watch cause of his antics but I cant feel very fond of him. I mean Tony did awful shit too but he seemed very sorry and apologizes not to mention he gets hit by a BUS and suffers a good amount in S2 so I cant say he doesnt get some punishment for it. Course in Cook's case he has a shitty dad so I do feel bad for him but I cant excuse him for what he did to pandora and thomas's relationship and srsly poor thomas, he didnt deserve to get sucked into cook's stupid games that he plays for some kind of twisted sense of self affirmation or something. I LOVED JJ though. I didnt think I would but after his episode which I thought was the most poignant affecting episode in the whole season, I totally fell in love with his character. He's a sweetheart and I dont know why he didnt drug cook sooner. lol The character I found I really couldnt stand was Freddie. He just rubbed me the wrong way every time.

what breaks my heart about S3 is it could have been SO GOOD if they just had put more thought into it and instead they went the easy way and picked up the stuff they thought would get alot of viewers and be ~dramatic~. It's like it's trying to be edgy even though Skins 1-2 WAS edgy but S3 is just an empty imitation for the most part. I did like Naomi/Emily's relationship. I just wish we'd gotten more depth and focus on that instead of the stupid love triangle. I hate it cause it ate up so much screentime that could have been put on developing the other characters and their stories. Not to mention the cook/pandora thing (and how it KEPT happening) was so unnecessary and hard to buy.

Only little clips that I forget about after I've seen them lol But yeah it sounds like a whole load of fuckery. With the original cast, I saw and heard about as much as for S3 concerning the cast and plot, and I was immediately sucked in. But I just can't feel motivated to seriously watch S3 :\

I have no interest in reading the books. I'll bet they're lame anyway. The show is so great because of Alan Ball.

Skins has become this cult show in England and I definitely think that S3 was a bit forced. But I still enjoyed it. I thought half of the actors were horrible though, but some of the episodes were way more 'fun' in this series.

The books IMHO. arent that great, and are in fact kind of poorly written but that's just my preference. So I really dont mind the changes and when I hear about how the book was originally I always feel like Alan did it better. But then as a rule I prefer film mediums to Book ones. It's a much more sensory type medium. You use actors, lighting, costumes, sounds, music, cameras and important shots and it all has to work to pull you into this world. With books you just got the words. which makes them actually ten times more difficult to pull off right. and few authors really do it so well that you can get sucked in fully and it's more taxing on the mind. So when I sit down and read something, it's gotta be really fucking awesome. Charlaine harris's books I'm afraid to say were not :(

S3 could have been SO much better. That's what keeps bugging me about it cause it did do some stuff right but it did so many other things wrong. It just feels a terrible waste.

Yeah, I skimmed through one and it didn't look like they would be anything great. Have you read them all?

Do you really? That's interesting. I find that most people prefer books. But I quite agree with you...that's why I'm a film student, LOL. But of course I do love readinggggg.

I watched the first episode of season 3 when it aired on BBC America last week since I've seen people raving about Skins all over the place. I really didn't like it. I thought it was incredibly dull. Maybe I'll check out the first season when I get a chance.

True Blood was AWESOME. Jason was fantastic the entire episode (Hugging Bill! XD)

I finally found myself enjoying Eric's character. I've liked him just fine up until this point, but didn't get the ginormous amount of hype. But, he was pretty cool. I loved the fake accent.

I wouldnt have called S3 dull, it's in fact more flashy and over the top than the first season was however it was very empty feeling alot of the time. and I couldnt care about the characters as much as the last cast. and part of it was there was so much time spent on this love triangle which made little to no sense in how anyone acted and that was time that could have been spent developing other characters and their stories. That being said I still managed to really adore Emily, JJ and Naomi and I have feeling it's because JJ and Em got the most character development and Nao got most of the witty lines. What's really sad is in a season of 10 50 minute episode, only 2 characters really grew or matured. Katie kind of did too. But aside from that that was it. Whereas everyone in the last cast managed to become better people by the end except of course poor chris. :( but oh well! Maybe 4th season will make everything better. Doubt it but I'm gonna watch it for JJ, Em and Nao.

I feel like True Blood would move much faster and be alot better if they had an 8-13 episode count like UK shows do.

There are only 12 episodes in a season, so there's only four left.

Oh crap I messed up. your right! I just checked the episode order and they only have 12 to a season for true blood. I thought last season was a fluke. *edits post* Well good then I guess the next four eps should be a doozy!

Oh. the first series of Skins is in a whole other league to S3. I loved the slightly absurd, surreal, and sometimes very dark elements of the first series, because it just set it apart from other teen shows, whereas series 3 feels exactly like all of those other teen shows, mainly due to the triangle. I have always loved the character of Effy, so to see her have to make a decision between bland, passive-aggressive Freddie and Cook, who IMHO are both not worth her time, was incredibly disappointing to start of with. And then the show became all about that decision, and it's just not the show I fell in love with in series 1 and stuck with throughout the less-than-stellar episodes of series 2, just because I loved the characters so much.

There is also the fact that the first generation had such a great sense of friendship that the second generation didn't even come close to achieving. It's not like S3 was inherently bad, I still watched it and there were some characters I came to love (like JJ, Katie (for the lols), and Naomi), but I don;t know, I guess I feel more embarrassed about liking it now.

Although, James Fitch is made of complete and utter awesome.

Absolutely. I started on season 2 yesterday and the difference in the casts is really like night and day. The amazing chemistry and camaraderie the first cast has is such a large part of it's appeal and the 2nd gen just doesnt have it. Like Cook said several times how much he loooves freddie but it never felt convincing to me at all. whereas when Tony tells Sid he wants him around and gets all emotional on Sid in S1 I totally believed it and was very moved. and it's scenes like that, that is moving powerful scenes that I think 3rd season totally lacks. I mean it tried to have moving scenes but they never quite hit the mark for me. (with the exception of JJ's episode, which moved me alot. perhaps cause I could relate with alot of his problems.)
Also I felt like the first gen had REAL problems that had to do with their futures, their families and their mental or physical health, on top of relationship issues whereas in S3 it''s all about who is fucking who or is "in love" with who and it's very annoying. Thank you for highlighting my exact problems with the triangle and freddie btw. Freddie is passive-aggressive and that is something I CANT STAND and I kept wondering what it is about him that was driving me bonkers and now I get it. Cook is....I think I only ever liked Cook in this one scene he had with Naomi where he says she's clever and I think that was the loveliest he ever was and it lasted less than a minute. I feel like as a character he's interesting but very hard to like and not cause he's CRAZY but because of the cavalier way he fucks with people's lives and emotions (I did feel bad that he had such a shit dad though). I loved Effy in the first 2 seasons and worse than her having to choose between two tossers, her character was totally pushed to the side. She was just this object to be fought over and I never felt we really got to know her or understand her struggles at all and that upset me. Cause delving into the character of a troubled young woman would have been great, and she was so dark and charismatic in S1-2 what happened in S3? Really the worst part of the triangle is how I cant understand why Effy likes either boy or why they like her. We barely see them have any meaningful interactions or enjoyable experiences with each other. Unless you count all the times her and Cook fuck which I dont since she seemed out of it for most of them. Hardly a basis for love yeah? It's not even that it was that bad, it's that it could (and should) have been SO much better. and Like you said it went from being a really edgy real show about real young people. and instead turned into yet another teen drama with a pretty people fucking each other all the time.
I wouldnt feel embarrassed about liking it though. Then again I watch Gossip Girl so maybe my sense of taste is a bit skewed. heh.
