Pixar: making AWESOME films since 1995.

I saw UP in theaters yesterday evening. It was a beautiful beautiful film and just like every other pixar movie before it, it made me cry. But it also made me smile from the bottom of my crooked heart by the end too. Their track record in films is truly amazing, and their brand of story telling so rare in hollywood. Pixar is truly one of the last hold outs in the film industry for good, pure, sincere, honest film-making that can appeal to a wide range of audiences. It's nice to know in this chaotic and uncertain world, you can always count on a pixar movie to be good and heartwarming.

Seriously when I watch pixar films I often go to a place inside me that I dont get to see most of the time. As corny as that sounds, but I think there are few things in this world that bring me the kind of warmth and sense of peace that pixar films can. Of course not all of the films succeed on the same scale for me. So far I have to say ratatouille, Wall-e and Up have had the most profound effect on me, however toy story, the incredibles, and finding nemo are all also favorites and fuck dont even get me started on that SONG in toy story II "when she loved me" I dont think i ever bawled so hard in a ANIMATED film in all my life. Even their SHORT films are so incredibly well done. I'm always impressed with how much effort and thought seems to be put into all of their works. It reminds me of the golden age of toons, you know like the looney tunes. They werent just silly cartoons, the looney toons were often really witty and well done too. I wont go so far as to call them art, but what pixar does, that is definitely art.
I could seriously gush all day. I even know all about what films Pixar has lined up for the next 2 years. 2011 cant some soon enough, since they have a new original story coming out then that has a female protagonist, (a first for pixar I think, even though they've had some great female supporting characters over the years, and you can argue that incredibles is an ensemble piece so the whole family are the protagonists) and set in a fairy tale like land. For 2010 all they have lined up is Toy Story 3, which I dont feel that excited about sadly. It was not needed and in fact it was disney that urged pixar to make it, it was part of their agreement for rejoining studios, since for a while pixar split off from disney. and Disney said they would give them the money to do whatever they wanted and write how they like so long as they promised to do a couple of sequels for their popular films, so far it's Toy Story 3 and Cars II. I think Toy Story because of the nature of the setting, has potential to be good even if the sequel was largely unnecessary. Cars on the other hand....:( well I guess you cant hit a home run every time, so even if it doesnt turn out well, I wont begrudge Pixar for it.

I'd love to hear from my flist about which pixar films are your favorites, so I made a handy dandy little poll here.

[Poll #1408911]

Yes I did just make an entire post about pixar movies. I know know I am so cool right?

I love love Pixar movies too♥
It's so hard to just pick one film ;P

pardon my lateness!

I know! I ended up picking all of them except cars and bugs life, which are my least fave pixar films (i still like them) which seems to be how everyone else feels according to the poll. lol

Cars is definitely my least favorite Pixar, but I love A Bug's Life! I left off Cars, Monsters, Inc, and Ratatouille. Not that I didn't like the other two, but I felt they were a bit overrated. I haven't seen the Toy Story movies in forever; I assume I loved them.

Oh hello! I know I friended you randomly but I've lurked around your lj for a while and figured that now was a good time as any to friend you. especially since you've hopped on the leverage train not too long ago. could always use more leverage fans on the flist!

and I expected to really dislike cars before even seeing it and was very pleasantly surprised. Ratatouille I loved but I suspect it has very much to do with my love of all things culinary/food related. Also I always wanted a pet rat...

I'm so excited for new Leverage next week!!

I didn't dislike Cars, but it was terribly boring and the protagonist was unsympathetic. It had its moments, but it's a rare misfire for Pixar.

Oh god I clicked on so many of them. Pixar is incredible. And Up was just... I can't even describe it. I feel like you, it took me to a place inside of myself that only Pixar's storytelling can take me. It was also a coincidence that the whole film was about a lot of struggles that I'm currently dealing with, so I was especially affected by it. I really thought it would be hard for their next movie to live up to Wall-E, but I was wrong to even consider that! Such amazing filmmakers. Such amazing stories. God, I love Pixar. ♥

I'm so sorry at how late this is. I've been much overwhelmed lately :(

I agree though, pixar IS incredible and Up was so lovely and you know the theater I saw it in was PACKED. Which sadly meant more noise than I'd have liked. For instance I was really crying by the end of that montage about ellie and the guy, but people were already giggling at the beginning when he slaps his alarm clock and I'm annoyed cause I still have tears going down my face. i'm lthinking HEARTLESS JERKS. pixar storytelling makes me think of my kiddies days when my mom would read me stories.
Yeah i felt the same! ithat the film was like some of the struggles i'm, dealing with, mainly getting out of my rut and moving on and going the places i need/want to go. I totally thought after WALL-E "how ARE they going to top this?" and they didnt top it but Up was so damn good, and while wall e had such a big overreaching message, the story and message for up is so simple and personal and it just WORKS. gah, they are geniuses. why isnt 2011 yet?

I voted for a whole bunch.

I've been hearing a lot of great reviews for Up.

And Pixar does make some great films. I really should see Ratatouille and WALL-E one of these days.

IT IS SO GOOD ELLE. I loved it, it's already up on the favorites list. Is it already being shown in your country?

You really should, those are two of my most favorite, and also some of their most recent stuff. pixar just gets better with time <3

aw, I want to see Up. I don't expect it'll appear here for a while. Pixar really is such a breath of fresh air and touches on emotions and moments that we tend to forget about as we get older.

[identity profile] sisterjune.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww, it's time like this where living in Japan is no fun :( well there's always torrentz and other less legal ways to watch. but it's the sort of thing you really have to see in a theater.

[identity profile] saihara.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
WOOT FUCK YES PIXAR. I grew up with their movies and they're always so good at what they do. In my head, anything Pixar = automatically good. <333333333

I can't wait to see Up. *A*

[identity profile] sisterjune.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's how i feel! If it's pixar it's automatically gonna be awesome, so i always go see their films they day or the day after they come out every year. I keep waiting for them to fuck up and make a bad film but it just has never happened. i hope it never does. you will LOVE up. it's beautiful,

[identity profile] verlorenlove.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
i dont watch movies very often (not even DVD or on the net) but when I do go to the cinema, it's always to watch comedy and pixar's sense of humour suits me very much. i love family comedy movie so yay to pixar! Monster's Inc and The incredibles are my favourite XD

[identity profile] sisterjune.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Pixar films are really good at being funny and being dramatic. and incredibles is one of my favorites too!

[identity profile] iceuck.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
i haven't seen wall-e, cars, and up yet. and i can't remember if i've seen toy story 2. :P
but i basically love everything i've seen so far. it's great how they make movies targeted to both young and old audiences. there's something for everybody.
my favorites would be..... this is hard...... errrr.... the incredibles, finding nemo, and monsters inc because boo is so cute and i mike wazowsky (??) is so funny. XD

[identity profile] sisterjune.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
finding nemo has a special place in my heart because i saw it on my birthday the year it came out. and actually boo the girl in monsters inc called mike "mike wazowsky" which was adorable because she couldn't say the correct way of his name which was closer to "wachowsky"

DIDNT WALLE JUST BREAK YOUR HEART WITH THE ADORABLENESS? Plus I loved the space adventure, I'd love to see more films that take deal with space, focus more on the imagination of it and the adventure rather than science and politics and space ship battles etc etc.
