I said I was gonna do a drama post one day and here I am doing just that. This one is long because Yukan is an episodic drama. I'll come back later do a post on the rest of the dramas i am watching soon. On to the drama!
----
Perhaps there are few things in the world of tv dramas that is more tragic than a drama that had the potential to be really amazing but ultimately failed miserably or worse, was simply nothing other than mediocre.
Yuukan club is NOT one of those dramas. It was clear to me and I am sure to many others even before the first episode aired that this drama was going to end up being a cyclone of stupid. And in that respect Yuukan club does not disappoint.
But then what else could one expect from a cast compromised primarily of pop idols, a fashion model, and a plot pulled directly from a children’s comic book?
What I did not expect from Yuukan club was for it to be boring, which may very well be its biggest flaw of all.
A run down of the episodes I’ve seen so far. My impressions, in real time:
Episode 1: boring boring BORING. WHY THE HELL DO I CARE IF JIN’S GIRLFRIEND LOSES SOME DANCE COMPETITION? Ahahaha she dumps him at the end and he cries! That was almost worth watching the whole thing. Well that and Yoko breaking ice with his fists. *fans self*
Episode 2: Poor Yuuri she is so bored with this drama that she volunteers to be kidnapped. Who can blame her really? AWWW IT’S CHINEN! THAT KID THAT LIKES OHNO! HI CHINEN! Jin is less lifeless in this episode. Perhaps…No! it is too early to say just yet. I think the fact that I can barely remember this episode at all says a lot more about it was than anything else could, really.
Episode 3: Just as I am ready to give up on this drama, they pull out Yoko in a wedding dress. *sigh* did I even stand a chance? Surprisingly this ep is fun to watch but then again boys in dresses, especially PRETTY boys in dresses is never not totally hilarious.
But also I could see some actual chemistry between the characters and Jin has actually started to get into his role but but STILL it is too early for me to say it….
Also yoko you can be MY bride anytime. *bricked*
Episode 4: oooo I liked this one! HAUNTED ASIAN DOLLS ARE SCARY. IYEEEEE!!! OMG YOKO SAVE MEEE! *beaten with sticks* Ahhh, anyway;
The whole idea of junno with a 70 yr old girlfriend was hilarious, even more hilarious was how much everyone seemed to be enjoying bidou’s pain. I KNOW I WAS. XD
Best part of the ep? “People’s misfortunes are funny!” complete with homemade poster of BidouxOld lady covered in hearts. XD Oh how I wish I still had the episode so I could screen cap it. Someone needs to put that quote on a t-shirt.
Episode 5: This is by far the best ep in the series. I know this even before I have seen that whole thing. OMG YOKO WAS SO BADASS IN THIS, I WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIESSSSS *smacked* LOL I need an icon with Yoko smirking that says “Best when evil.” Because he IS. He even said he likes playing that kind of character. AND IT SHOWS. *faints* I loved this ep, not simply because of Yoko though, but it was really intense. The fight scenes were far more realistic and brutal looking than normal. I could actually get into the drama and was like “OMG NOO NOT HIS FACE!” and “awww poor yuuri, poor noriko” etc etc. Noriko’s dissapointment and feelings of betrayel at Seishiro for acting the way he did simply for pursuit of power was far more interesting than bitterness fueled by petty jealousy would have been. Also the main theme of the ep that Seishiro wasn’t ready to handle that kind of responsibility and that so much power can corrupt a person big time. Was actually executed much more subtly than usual.
All in all this ep was by far the most engrossing one so far.
Also nothing made me laugh harder than the promo bit at the end where Yoko takes a dive at Jin’s collarbones and Jin goes down squeeling like a little girl.
He even told the host interviewing Jin on Osharism about this weakness of his and the last minutes of the interview are spent with him tormenting Jin by grabbing at his collarbones repeatedly. IS IT ANY WONDER WHY I LOVE THIS MAN?
Episode 6: Lame. Lame. LAAAAAAME. This whole thing was SOO DUMB. Koyama is boring, cannot act that well and is totally fugly. Couldn’t they have at least gotten a cute boy for this? Also WTF are people going on about a Seishiro/Noriko coupling? Dude bidou practically beat us over the fucking head in the last ep with why Noriko was mad at seishiro to begin with. She saw him as an ideal that other men should follow i.e a good and dependable guy. She even said “I don’t care if he was marrying her because he loved her” let me ask you if the love of your life was marrying your friend would YOU be ok with it? I don’t care how nice you are you would be at least a little bit pissed of right there. And also in this ep she tells seishiro “You’re acting like my father.” Oh yeah that’s VERY romantic. >_< Seriously people? I mean really, so he showed concern for her, SHE’S HIS CHILDHOOD FRIEND I would be more surprised if he was indifferent on the matter. Look if they were really setting them up to be a couple I wouldn’t care but that’s clearly not what they are doing and I resent the fact that just because he shows some concern for her and she is female it automatically becomes OMG TWUU WUUV.
DEAR LORD SPARE ME! *retches*
Episode 7: WTF was up with this episode? It had no point or purpose. They made up some country that was clearly inspired by a real middle eastern one but why even make up a country? Why did the plot have to be SO stupid? Couldn’t they have done “Rich famous Taiwanese actor visits Japan“ And then go on from there? That plot has just as much potential for fun antics as the other one. And it wouldn’t have been quite so retarded. Seriously the only highlight of this ep for me was Yuuri/miroku/seishiro kicking ass in army get ups and Jin speaking English. I mean it was perfect! OMG JIN, YOU REALLY WERE STUDYING AFTERALL. *wipes tear*
Actually, he sounded a little better with English now than he did back at that return conference of his. But then coming up with English off the top of his head as opposed to memorizing it for a drama, is very different indeed. DUDE HE EVEN HAD A BIT OF A SOUTH CALI ACCENT. COOLNESS. I dunno I get excited over this stuff. LEAVE ME ALONE.
Kashi yuu’s English made me think of the female Russian commentator that I always hear when I watch figure skating events. Jin’s character has officially grown on me by this point I won’t lie. I think he may actually…have potential to be a good actor one day.
WHY ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT? I…I CAN’T HELP IT OK?
HE’S CUTE AND I’M SHALLOW. *sobs* FORGIVE ME EVERYONE. *runs away in shame*
All in all Yukan club or rather Yuu-kun club to us eighters because I get the feeling that’s about 90% of the reason any of us are watching this
Seriously yuukan club must be so bad it’s almost GOOD. Honestly that’s the only explanation I can give for why I am still watching this, you know aside from the fact that I have a fangirl crush on Yoko and Jin is very easy on the eyes
Once the last 3 episodes of Yukan are done airing I’ll come back and give my thoughts on all of those episodes too. Because clearly you all want to hear them. :D

Date: 2007-12-02 12:19 am (UTC)Reading your raves/rants on Yukan Club made me think of my own opinions about the drama..and let's just say that they're not all that great to begin with.
I'm pretty much forcing myself to finish this for Yoko and for Jin.........my two favorite pretty boys from JE.
Otherwise, I pretty much yawn and skim through the episodes.

Date: 2007-12-02 01:28 am (UTC)Yeah Jin wasn't bad on the English, right? I heard people criticizing it, but I actually thought it wasn't bad! I like it when Miroku randomly bursts into tears!
I think Yoko should play villains more as well. And like your tag said--punch them XD
Episode 5 was indeed the best. Oh well, I'm in the Yuu-kun Club--it's all for him <3
I personally don't want any romances unless it's Seishiro and Yuuri. Can't accept anything else XD
