Harry potter and the half blood ponce.
I saw the new Harry Potter movie today and it was so good that I decided to blog about it!.
You know i've seen the last 5 movie installments in this franchise. and I dont remember hating or even really disliking any of them. The first two potter films were nice but not especially memorable (but i could say the same for the first two potter books though I actuallly liked the 2nd one alot) and the 3rd one was filmed in a very interesting way and is possibly my second fave potter film. the 4th one was alot of fun but was basically shot like a major action film. The 5th one had some beautiful shots but the scenes shifted SO fast and the film just felt like all over the place and i barely remember it. But this one is easily my favorite of the bunch and I think is the first harry potter film to really impress me. This film actually MOVED me, the other ones entertained me but this one made me got me in the heart. I cried and I freaked out and I laughed and I was just utterly completely sucked in.
So much amazing, the way it was shot was GORGEOUS. It was much more cohesive and coherant to me compared to the previous film. So much props to David Yates! Who I want to gush about because OMG HE DIRECTED STATE OF PLAY I LOVED THAT SERIES AHHHHH. *ahem* There was so many lovely wide shots and just shots where you can appreciate the set pieces and the grandness of the castle and these give more gravity to scenes that occur in these settings and sucks you into the proceedings so much more effectively. Also it should be mentioned that the soundtrack was perfect and complimented all the scenes.
This film was also REALLY scary. I mean there was this heavy sense of ominousness, evil and paranoia that just kind of ran throughout the whole film. Whoever did the screenplay, did a very good job of basically bringing to life in a few powerful shots the same things that in the book took several pages or backstory to make effective. Thats the thing, with a book you can take your time but with a movie you have to work extra hard to be just as effective because you also have alot more pressure to be CONCISE. and I think the film did that, it defintiely gave me a sense of urgency and that shit is going down soon at hogwarts. And the burning of the burrow? Awful gut wrenching chilling and powerful scene. The whole film was just so darkly beautiful and it really FELT like a magical world. Kind of like Return to Oz but with better special effects and I think Bellatrix could eat the Wicked Witch of the West for breakfast. Srsly bitch is CRAAAAZY.
The actors were great, the adults are always impressive but this time even the kids (lol well not kids anymore) really impressed me. Like Dan since the 4th film has really started to grown on me as harry potter, because before that I felt like he just didnt cut it, and I think this film was the crowing achievement. I think the fact that he's gained alot more experiance as an actor since film 1 has helped alot. I really wanna give extra props to Helena bonham carter as Bellatrix cause lord that woman sent CHILLS down my spine. She was TERRIFYING and that's exactly what she should be, and I'm glad for it cause there arent enough truly scary female villains out there. Also I think she definitely got Luna beat in the craziness dept. Speaking of Luna. I LOVE HER OMG <333 I loved that they had several scenes with her in it and she was adorable and bizarre and gah how perfect was the casting for her?
Also Alan Rickman <3 I do not know what is about that man that whenever he walks on screen as snape I get the shivers and the good kind. and I cant BELIEVE he is sixty cause the last thing I need is to find sixty year olds attractive. THAT IS NOT RIGHT. But the sexy deep diabolical british accent gets me every time ;_; but I also loved the nuances in his facial expression that clearly display for those of us who have read the books that he was always a good man deep down....really deep down. and for those who havent I think it did enough to cast doubts "is he really a bad guy?" cause there was some bits where you see genuine sincerity, concern, pain and shock in snape's face but it's truly sublte and manages to keep things complex yet amibguous at the same time. And watching him just kind of broke my heart all over again knowing snape's story. He seriously had such a shit life, no wonder he hated the world but he still wasnt an evil asshole and he ended up dying before getting to feel like a hero or have happiness. Talk about getting the short end of the stick in life, that being said Book!snape is 100% total jerk. So while I did feel bad for him I also felt like he brought alot of his own unhappiness on himself at times. Movie!snape however is much more subtle and much more dry and deadpan and as such is much more likeable and badass. Since book!snape acted seriously shrill and batshit sometimes and was utterly petty and vicious when he wanted to be. Movie!snape is just cold and insensitive but not much beyond that. Basically it's easy to see why the fangirls love him lol.
Draco not so much, I'll never get the fascination with him. He's not a sexy bad boy he's a whiny spoiled brat and a spineless child. But that being said, both book 6 and movie 6 made me feel bad for Draco. I was like damn what a confused messed up kid. I hope they got therapy in the magical world cause dude will need alot.
I am amazed how HILARIOUS this film actually was, when it could have easily been dead serious from start to finish. I mean the bit with Ron and the love potion? Or Haryy when drank that felix potion and then acted DRUNK for the next few scenes, omg how did he become so much more likable after that? and Oh man lavender was pyscho, not bellatrix pyscho but pretty damn nuts. WON WON *dead* What's scary is they actually TONED HER DOWN from the book. Best lavender scene is def when she goes to ron's hospital bed to fuss over him and ron just moans out hermione's name. I loved Dumbledore's reaction to lavender's shrieks of despair "Oh to be young and feel the sting of love" and Snape had NO reaction and stayed dead pan with this "....." face the whole time she was gushing and then shrieking. I just died.
I LOLed also at harry going "I am the chosen one" and Hermione then smacking him to sense, cause really that's what friends are for, smacking the humility back into you.
And of course everyone scene with Luna was worth at least a chuckle. Luna <3
So so much awesome. Basically a great film, I recommend it to EVERYONE, whether you read the books or not but especially if you did. It actually managed to renew my love for Harry Potter for a whole 3 hours. I might even actually read the 7th book now cause I never did (but of course I read all the spoilers) and now I really feel like I wanna know how events proceed now rather than wait the 5 years the next two films will take and yes TWO cause someone had the bright idea of splitting the 7th book into two parts.
